BRADFORD UNITARIAN CHURCH

Bradford Unitarian Centre, Russell Street, Bradford, BD5 0JB

(Secretary), 01943 608354

The present Unitarian church was built in 1971 to replace a large city centre gothic building built in 1869. There were other buildings before that with the first Unitarian congregation meeting at Wibsey Fold in 1689 - the chapel still survives as a cottage.

The present building, although modern in design, incorporates stained glass from the 19th century building. The building is a peaceful oasis in the University and College area of the city.

The building as such is attractive yet unremarkable. Unitarian worship is however very distinctive by virtue of its emphasis on the responsibility of the individual in his or her search for spiritual truths. Freedom, reason and tolerance are keystones of Unitarian witness.
