The Church of St Barnabas, Heaton was erected in 1863/64, the eighth of ten to be built following a House of Lords indictment on spiritual destitution on Bradford. The site was given by the Earl of Rosse. The architectural style is French Gothic of the early 13th Century.

Five of the stained glass windows are the work of Charles Kempe.

For the Millennium year, "a tapestry" was proposed fitting the theme of the history of Heaton over 2000 years. The final award-winning tapestry, made by 427 people, is in 53 panels on both sides of the nave. Visit the tapestry website at www.fgco.com/tap/index.html
