The first Ebenezer chapel was built in 1822 and the Sunday School added in 1883. In 1922 Ebenezer had 240 scholars and 51 teachers with the Christian Endeavour group having 93 members.
At the Centenary celebrations in 1922, local textile manufacturer Mr JW Standeven offered to rebuild the church in memory of his mother Charlotte and the architects Walsh & Maddock were commissioned to undertake the design.
A floor was inserted in 1985 to create a worship area and a social area, and a new kitchen has now been installed.
The main features of the building are the significant tower and the internal oak woodwork.
Others using Ebenezer include Central Church - modern style worship mainly with young people, and St Augustine's drop-in centre who use us as a distribution point for food, clothing and other essentials to refugees and the needy.
Our weekly Coffee Pot is open to all to come in, and many do, regularly. This is our main outreach programme.
