ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH

Miry Lane, Thongsbridge, Holmfirth, HD9

The building of a mission church at Thongsbridge in the parish of Holmfirth in 1877 came towards the end of a great era of church building. Alfred Sykes a local solicitor at that time was a very generous benefactor to St.Andrew's Church. Today a brass plaque on the wall in the nave of the church remains in his memory. The organ (built by Binns) was dedicated in November 1898.In the late 1980s an extension was added to the rear of the church to house two meeting rooms and a kitchen and toilet. Major re-ordering took place at the beginning of this century which has opened up the altar area.
