The Methodist Mission building is new - opened in 2000. It is a replacement for one in King Street which was compulsorily purchased by Kirklees Metropolitan Council to make way for the Kings Gate Shopping Centre. The Mission has always had a social entrepreneurial spirit, from penny banks and cripples guild in the 1920's, mother & baby home in the 1930's and 40's - through to Coffee Bar Drop-In in the 1970s and the current Welcome Centre to meet crisis-needs in the town centre, and the Computer Facility using modern technology to raise the self esteem of our contacts through the Café and Welcome Centre.
