NLCC-our past
New Life Christian Centre, is housed in a Grade 2 listed building on George Street,(formerly Fair Ground Road) in Wakefield. It was built at a cost of £700 for the Wakefield Baptist Congregation, with the foundation stone being laid in 1843, and the first service held on 20th March 1844.
The Wakefield Baptist Church moved to Belle Isle in 1939, and the current building purchased at a cost of £960, by the Wakefield Assemblies of God, Pentecostal congregation, who named the church ‘Glad Tidings Hall’
The first floor pews were removed, and the church refurbished in 1989, giving a ‘new’ floor, crèche, kitchen, entrance hall, toilet block, and heating system at a cost of £40,000. As part of the changes, the church was re named, the New Life Christian Centre.
NLCC –our present
Our church building is important to us, but the bible teaches that the real church is not made of bricks and mortar, but of the people who worship in it.
Our ‘church’ is full of wonderful people from 25 different nations-we come from different social and cultural backgrounds, but we all have a passion to love God, each other, and to share God’s love with others.
This love is expressed in many different ways through the more spiritual nature of our Sunday Worship, Prayer times and mid week Connect and Alpha Courses, but also through the many projects and ministries we are involved in with the community, some of which are highlighted here.
1) Children - Jesus loved to have children around him and each year, through various groups working inside and outside of the building, we minster to thousands of children aged 0-11years.
New Life Stay and Play (0-2years) This group meets each Tuesday and Thursday morning at NLCC, and gives the opportunity for parents and children to have fun together, as well as to learn from each other and from various health, care and educational practitioners.
New Life Pre School (2-5 years Nursery Provision) Our nursery is open from 8.30am-4.00 during term time and full funding is available to 3-4 year olds. We offer a first class education and a Christian Caring environment in which to learn.
Primary School Ministry Our Children’s and Families Pastor Jonathan Robinson, shares the Christian message in 25 local schools taking assemblies, lessons and roadshows. He runs an after school club at the Methodist School called Fusion, and is looking to start clubs in other schools in the year ahead. Jonathan also heads up a team that runs our Energise Club, every Sunday morning.
2) Young People A number of the disciples who followed Christ were teenagers, and we are ministering to an increasing number of young people aged 11-18.

NLCC-our future
We believe that God wants us to continue to share his love with many more in the community, and to be a church where people of all ages feel safe and loved, and where their emotional, physical and in particular, spiritual needs are met.
We invite you to be part of our church future, and to get involved in knowing the God who loves you so much.
Each day, thousands of people around the world are becoming Christians- this could be your day…If you would like it to be, then saying this prayer is a good place to start, find a bible and read it, join a local church and maybe join an Alpha Course
‘Dear God, I want to know you and the love you have for me. I know that I do not deserve your forgiveness but I believe Jesus has paid for my forgiveness on the cross. I now claim that forgiveness and ask you to come into my life and change me forever. Amen’
